Brave Hearts for Strong Minds is a non-profit organization with the mission of funding education for children who have lost a parent. BHSM holds an annual walk in June at Fort Washington State Park and other family-friendly events throughout the year.  Please consider joining us in support of this great organization and its mission.

Our mission started in 2012 after a beloved community member, Tom Reilly, suddenly passed away leaving behind his wife and four young children. Tom was a man who gave his all to the community and in his honor, we strive to continue that tradition of care for others. Our logo was inspired by his musical and carpentry skills while also highlighting his generous heart in which he provided for those in need. What makes us unique is our “pay it forward” model that requires all children who receive assistance to pay it forward by fundraising and creating events for future families. Each year these families come back with a bigger and stronger desire to create positive change for others who are going through a similar loss.

Children who have lost a parent face immense and lasting emotional and social hurdles. One of the key struggles for families that have lost a loved one is the ability to provide for the children’s education. Reflecting on Tom’s compassion and friendship, our organization came up with a way to provide opportunities for children in need.
